The 2007 World Solar Challenge event accredited 119 media representatives from 13 countries. Domestic crews covering the event were from Channels 7, 9 and 10 and internationally crews were commissioned by National Geographic, BBC (United Kingdom), Sveriges Television (Sweden), Spectrafilm GMBH (Germany) Pilarczyk Media (Europe) Akita TV (Japan), Acid Press (Belgium). In addition the daily news feeds produced by the event were aired around the world.
In summary, the 2007 event generated:
- 350 online media articles
- 260 national print media articles
- 67 national television news stories
- 200 radio news updates and interviews
- 40 local print media articles
- 20 local television news stories
Planned Media Activity
The media coverage for the event will be both extensive and multi-faceted.
Key elements include:
- Television newsfeeds via a dedicated crew and satellite dish on every day of the event.
- Pre-event television feed featuring entrants, scrutineering, colour, preparation, personalities
- The ability for all entrants/ manufacturers to gain material from the daily news feeds
- Daily reports supplied to radio networks
- Results, media releases, vision posted daily on the event web site
- A 60 minute documentary on the event for national and international distribution
- ‘Colour’ segments/articles on cars entered with manufacturers encouraged to engage personalities or media members to participate in the event.
Relationships with eco/environmental media in addition to motoring media will also be integral to the coverage of the event.
